Taking a rare step Uttar Pradesh chief minister
Akhilesh Yadav expelled SP supremo
Mulaym Singh Yadav from the party for his rape remarks. Talking to reporters in state capital Lucknow
Akhilesh Yadav said that SP chief
Mulaym Singh Yadav had harmed the party image by saying that
rapists should not be
hanged for his crime.
Akhilesh Yadav also said that with his controversial statement the came on back foot and its opponents got a chance to attacks on the party. UP chief minister also said that the party had always worked for women empowerment so the party was in favoure of a
stringent action against the rapists. Akhilesh Yadav also informed that stringent action against
SP chief had become inevitable because he wasn't stopping his anti-party activities despite warning.
Akhilesh Yadav also said that the party had issued a show cause notice to SP chief for his
remarks on rape but he had failed to answer it within stipulated time. UP chief minister also said that SP chief was also defying the party order by not publicly apologise for his
rape remarks. In the mean time,
BSP chief Mayawati came in save of
Mulaym Singh Yadav saying him as a seasoned politician.
Mayawati also said that with his expulsion the state would lag behind in development. She also said that she would launch a nationwide agitation against the expulsion of SP chief. In the mean time, speculations are rife that SP chief
Mulaym Singh Yadav may join BSP in a day or two. The reason was that in an election rally SP chief had termed
Mayawati as his long time trusted friend and had said that he wanted to see
Mayawati as next prime minister of the country.
Mulaym Singh Yadav had also said that BSP chief was the most suitable candidate for the top post of the country. Experts are of the view that with joining the BSP of SP chief, the poll performance of BSP would improve in the state and BJP's performance would decline.
